Staurastrum groenbladii

St. groenbladii is a small-sized, smooth-walled Staurastrum that may confused with a Cosmarium species if its 3-radiate nature is neglected. In frontal outline, semicells are obversely trapeziform with convex apex and slightly concave lateral sides. Characteristic feature is its rather shallow, open sinus. In the Netherlands, St. groenbladii is a rare species in shallow (often ephemeral) mesotrophic pools.
